![]() Name: John Cunningham Hometown: Youghal Age: 65 Hobbies: Playing the Accordian. Joining in music sessions, Dancing , Driving. Favourite band/music: The Gallowglass, Donal Ring and Jackie Hearst, Ceili Bands in General including Scottish Country Dance Bands. Show(s): Take the Floor - Saturday 9.00 - 10.00am. Ballads and Irish - Thursday 2.00 - 3.00pm. About the show: It gives a wide selection of music to the general public , by playing a cross section of music and songs , it is an opportunity to promote the music of yesterday, while keeping tradition alive which is very important. Interesting Fact: Ceili Dancing became very popular after the first visit of Sir Jimmy Shond from Scotland in 1954, The Ceili Dances were a six hour operation with no relief band. The Bands from this era usually had eight members. Many Ballroom owners had a ladies half hour , which was a ladies choice to ask the men of their choice to dance. The Arch Ballroom, Tallow, Co Waterford was one such venue where an MC would call out dance formations not heard of today, More's the pity. |
